Top 10 Beaches that I have been to and you should visit too (or not)
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008 | Timmy's Top 10 List
Nothing is worse than talking to a guy who just got back from a week in Hawaii when you spent the same week working (this means you Fahsbender). Anyways, it got me thinking (insert joke here) I have never been to Hawaii BUT I have been to some pretty killer beaches in my day(s). And since summer officially started last week with a Bakersfield special 110 degree scorcher just for Mr. Bartl, I decided to list my choices of the Top 10 Beaches that I have been to and you should too (or not).
10) Nice, France— If you’re high class (I’m not) this beach is for you. Too many rocks combined with dirty looks from the French drops this super celebrity vaca spot to the bottom of the list.
9) Huntington Beach, California—’Surf City, USA’ as it’s referred to by most (don’t tell Santa Cruz), and where I mastered the art of a ‘Car Placement Specialist’ that many of you have commented on right here at Dukes Restaurant (the palapa on the left is where we beat the heat). Cool, touristy beach, but with the abundance of ‘909ers (people from the Riverside/Corona region of Cali) it drops into the 9 spot.
8) Puerto Nuevo, Baja, Mexico— Overwhelmingly known for the Lobster. So, if you don’t mind having to negotiate the price for your massive feast of ‘Langouste’ or ‘Bugs‘ for slang, this spot’s for you! P.S. Don’t’ drink the water.
7) ‘Thousand Steps’, Laguna Beach, California— If you can avoid the loser kids from that MTV show and manage to climb these 241 steps (I know, not 1,000 but everything is exaggerated in the O.C. right?) this spot is great. It’s super secluded off P.C.H and may have the best (clearest/cleanest) water in So Cal… that would be a close 2nd to my next pick…
6) Catalina Island, California— A relatively quick 50 minute ride on the Ol’ Catalina Express out of Long Beach, this beach has something for everyone. If camping and diving is your pleasure then ’Two Harbors‘ would be your destination. Or, if you are into a little shopping followed by relaxing on the beach with some Coronita’s, then ‘Avalon‘ would be your cup of tea.
5) Bahia De Los Angeles (L.A. Bay), Baja, Mexico— About a 10 hour drive through potholes the size of a Buick from the border. Tons of great Yellowtail and Dorado fishing, plus Guillermo’s Restaurant and RV park will take great care of you…when their generator is working and they are not napping, which is pretty much all day.
4) I interrupt this list for a TIMMY’s Top 10 public service announcement. The Park at Riverwalk in Bakersfield, California, IS NOT A BEACH! I checked it out myself. It is in fact A DUCK POND!!! Please STOP SWIMMING IN IT!!! Thank You.
3) Back to the list… The Wedge, Balboa Peninsula, California— Typically this beach is only worth visiting during a south facing swell. That is unless you like admiring rich people get richer on their 50ft. yachts (no jealousy). But when it’s on, It’s ON
2) Cinqueterra (pronounced CHEEN-kweh TEHR-reh), Italy— 5 villages, great hiking (not in Rainbow sandals though) and the locally made SangriaJ has a mighty kick to it. One of 5 Villages
And finally, my not so clever or informative pick for the Top 10 beaches that I have been to and you should too (or not)
1) San Sebastian, Spain— Located in the heart of the Basque Country, this place has absolutely everything: Great Beaches, Basque Food, and Siestas! What more could you ask for?

You forgot Cancun, Mexico. The Yucatan peninsula is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. it is one of the few beaches in the world where the sand has the texture of flour and NEVER gets hot regardless of the temperature. Cancun, the resort area, is basically an island where all of the hotels are located directly on the beach. In short it is a 5 minute walk form your hotel, regardless of where you stay, to the beach. In the evening the nightlife is to die for…….ie most of the clubs entice patrons to dance on the bar.

my two favorites:
Siesta Key (Sarasota, FL) - white powder sand beach, the Gulf is like bath water, they let you bring drinks onto the beach (no glass) and a nice little sand bar you can swim out to!
San Clemente, CA - good bar/restaurant out on the pier, good clean beach… great place for 4th of July fireworks because you can also see Dana Point’s show as well.
