Jersey Off Our Backs Silent Auction Raises $16,400; 2007-08 Season Jersey Auctions total tops $100,000

Condors to attend 2008 Festival of Beers Saturday

Silent Jersey Auction Raises $16,400:

Fans crowded the table, frantically scribbling last- second bids as Condors staff members counted down the final seconds before the Season-Worn Jersey Off Our Backs Silent Auction came to a close Saturday night. The auction spanned the course of three home playoff games, raising a total of $16,400 for the Active 20/30 Club. Saturday's bidding ended with a grand total ranking second-highest all-time for a Condors silent auction total.

Team Captain Sean Venedam's #13 jersey set the auction's individual jersey high with the final bid of $1,800. The Condors four jersey auctions during the 2007-08 season have raised $100,175 for local charities, the most ever raised in a single season.

The Active 20/30 Club is local a non-profit club that strives to improve the quality of life for special needs children in the community. Two years ago some of the silent auction proceeds went to assist then 9 year- old Walker Franks, who was stricken with acute aplastic anemia, which is an inability to produce enough blood cells and platelets and must be treated with blood transfusions and daily kidney flushes. Last year, a portion of the silent auction earnings benefited Hannah Strategos, a local 6 year-old with a brain tumor. Hannah has since completed chemo and radiation therapy and has had no reoccurrence.

"The Active 20/30 Club would like to thank the fans and the Condors for their ongoing support of the jersey auction and the children of Kern County," said Active 20/30 Club Chairman Cecil Zimmerman. "One hundred percent of the money raised will go to children's charities and all of it stays local. This will allow us to continue our support of less-fortunate Kern County youth."

The jerseys auctioned off were the burgundy 10th Anniversary jerseys that featured the traditional Condors logo in front of a gold "X" signifying the 10th year of the team's existence. At the bottom left leg of the "X" is 1998-99, the Condors inaugural season, on the bottom right leg of the X is 2007-08 the 10th Anniversary season. Bakersfield is written across the bottom of the jersey in black letters with a gold color stripe acting as a background. The jerseys were one of three regularly worn by the team during the course of the season.
