Condors close the book on Beale Library, set to do-si-do with Merle Haggard:

Condors Hockey defeated the Beale Library in the first round of the "Greatest Things About Bakersfield" tournament, decided by the readers of Bakersfield Life Magazine. The Condors now move on to the second round with 31 other great things about Bakersfield, including this round's opponent, Merle Haggard, who slipped past the Valley Plaza by six votes.

This Week in Condorstown:

Thursday, Aug. 21: The Condors will be honored by the Active 20/30 Club at an award dinner set to be held at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 801 Niles Street beginning at 6 p.m.  The Condors raised more than $20,000 for the Active 20/30 Club from the Season-worn Jersey Off Our Backs Silent Auction, held during the Condors three home playoff games in April.

Friday, Aug. 22:
The Condors will hold a Select-A-Seat Party at Rabobank Arena from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Grab a free hotdog and soda while you tour the arena on a quest to find your perfect seat.  Condors D Tyler Scott will be at the event from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and F Andrew Ianiero will be greeting fans from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Children can play in the Condors bounce house, shoot the puck in the inflatable slapshot and win Condors gear by spinning the Condors prize wheel meanwhile parents can view the open seats which will be marked according to availability.  Friendly Condors representatives will also be on hand to answer any questions and assist you with securing a season full of entertainment.  Finally, everyone who purchases a new ticket plan at the event will receive a gift card for $10 in free gas!  For further details call 324-PUCK (7825).

Mark Your Calendars:

Thursday, Aug. 28: The sixth Care-A-Van of the summer will brave the canyon on its way to the city of Lake Isabella.  From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Condors will be in front of Barnes Bargains, located at 6408 Lake Isabella Blvd.  Condors fans and bystanders alike can challenge Condors D Scott Balan to a shootout in the Condors slapshot, mingle with Condors mascot Baby Cal and spin the prize wheel to win Condors gear.

Afterwards, the Care-A-Van will join the Lake Isabella Exchange Club for lunch.  At the Exchange Club the Condors will serve as guest speakers, talking about the Condors charitable endeavors, such as the Care-A-Vans and the upcoming season.  The Care-A-Van assists Goodwill in collecting donations and brings Condors hockey to the Kern County communities. Anyone who donates to Goodwill at a Care-A-Van location will receive a voucher for admission to a Condors game in October.
