Mailbag Post:

Can you explain the definition of a 'veteran'? And, who from last year's team will be considered a 'veteran' in 08-09.

Mailbag Response:

A "Veteran" is someone who has appeared in 260 or more professional games in one of the qualifying (equivalent level or higher) leagues.  There are many reasons why players don't come back from year after year, not all of them being the vet rule, but the vet rule is pretty commonplace.  In fact, the ECHL, American Hockey League, International Hockey League, Central Hockey League and even the major junior leagues in Canada all have rules regarding veteran or veteran-type players. Players from the 2007-08 roster who will be veterans next season are: Kevin Truelson, Brett Lutes, Andrew Ianiero, Steve Slonina, Scott Balan, Mike Hofstrand, Sean Venedam and David Kudelka
