Condors unveil 2008-2009 schedule
Opening Night slated for October 18 - just 171 days away!

Marty Raymond on 2008-09 Schedule

The 72-game ECHL schedule features 36 home games during the regular season, 27 of which fall on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Bakersfield will face off against every team in the National Conference, including 10 games against Ontario, the most of any opponent. The Condors will also battle National Conference rivals Alaska, Fresno, Idaho, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Stockton, Utah and Victoria. A complete breakdown of game against each opponent is listed below.

Prominent games scheduled include the annual Businesspersons Special/Field Trip Day on Nov. 12 against Las Vegas, Teddy Bear Toss on Nov. 29 against Idaho, and the first meeting against their most recent playoff combatants, the Victoria Salmon Kings, on Nov. 5.

The Condors longest road trip of the year will be from Nov. 14 - 21, when they will play five games in eight nights in four different cities. This will be the first season for the Condors in the ECHL in which they will not travel to the East Coast, nor will any American Conference club come to Bakersfield. Their longest homestand will be from Feb. 21 - March 4, a stretch of five games against four different opponents.

In addition, the Condors will have a pair of weekend matinee games, with Dec. 13 and Feb. 21 both slated for a noon puck drop. They finish with two at home against Ontario on April 3 and 4.

"We're very happy with our schedule and the amount of weekend games in particular, which are generally easier for our fans to get to," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "We're already hard at work in lining up great promotions and putting together convenient ticket packages, and we're already counting down the days until Opening Night!"

The ECHL
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 24 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Nineteen of the 24 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The Condors ranked fifth in the league with an average attendance of 5,628 per game, and drew over 200,000 fans for the eighth time in their 10-year history.

The Premier 'AA' Hockey League welcomed 3,756,191 fans, marking the fifth straight season and the 11th time in the last 12 years that it has exceeded 3.75 million fans. The 51 sold out crowds are the most in the last five seasons and mark the fourth time in the last five years that the ECHL has had at least 40 sellouts.

The conference and division alignments and the format for the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined and approved at a later date by the ECHL Board of Governors.
