Bakersfield falls to Idaho, 5-0
Rubber match at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday

 
BOISE, Idaho. - The Idaho Steelheads (38-13-1-4, 81pts) defeated the Bakersfield Condors (31-20-4-1, 67pts) 5-0 Friday night at Qwest Arena. G Richard Bachman earned the shutout, stopping all 16 shots .
 
With time winding down, it appeared the first period was headed towards a scoreless tie. However, G J.P. Levasseur couldn't cover a loose puck, which was poked over the goal line by C Kevin DeVergilio for a 1-0 Steelheads lead. Idaho also led in shots 19-9 after 20 minutes. 
 
In the second period, Idaho grabbed the momentum. LW Mark Derlago scored at 7:47 of the second period to make it a 2-0 lead. LW John Swanson scored with 9:33 remaining in the second period on the power play for a 3-0 advantage. Tempers boiled over after F Mark McCutcheon hit D Ken Morin hard into the boards from behind. RW Nick Kemp quickly came to the aid of Morin and went toe-to-toe with McCutcheon, who received a game misconduct. RW Ashton Rome scored while shorthanded for a 4-0 lead with 1:19 remaining the middle frame. Shots were 34-13 in favor of Idaho after two periods.
 
C Tyler Spurgeon added the final goal for a 5-0 lead, 2:53 into the third period. Shots ended 45-16 in favor of Idaho. The teams combined for 89 penalty minutes.
Notes from the Nest:
G Timo Pielmeier was reassigned by Anaheim to Bakersfield today, but he is not expected to join the team in Boise... D Ken Morin left the ice in the second period, but returned for the third period... The Condors went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Idaho went 1-for-10 on the man-advantage. The Condors have been called for 10 power plays against in a game four times this season... Bakersfield was shut out for the fourth time in the last 10 games and sixth tme overall... The game ended with a total of three fights, including bouts between RW Erick Lizon and D Steve Oleksy in the opening period, RW Nick Kemp and F Mark McCutcheon and F Mathieu Aubin and F Brendan Kushnirik in the second period... The Condors and Idaho Steelheads clash again on Saturday for the rubber match in Boise.
