VICTORIA, BC. - The Condors fell to the Victoria Salmon Kings Friday night, 5-4, in front of 3,911 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, British Columbia. Brett Lutes sent the game to overtime and a shootout with his fifth goal of the year in the third, but the Condors came up just short in the shootout, dropping a heartbreaker to the Salmon Kings.
The Condors (3-3-2, 8 points) got on the board first with Eric Sonnenberg's third goal of the year, coming on a Condors power play. David Kudelka and Justin Chwedoruk assisted the goal, as Kudelka sent a shot in from the right point that deflected off Sonnenberg and into the net, giving Bakersfield the early 1-0 lead.
The Salmon Kings (5-2-0, 10 points) managed to tie the game when Ash Goldie wristed a shot past Jamie Hodson, making the score 1-1 at the 12:19 mark of the first. Chris St. Jacques registered an assist on the goal.
The ever-active Chwedoruk picked up another point, as he put the Condors up 2-1 with a backhand goal from the top of the crease at the 5:11 mark of the second, assisted by Evan Kotsopoulos and Andrew Ianiero.
After Kiel Mcleod tied the game at 2-2, the Condors came right back at the 10:02 mark of the second with a monstrous Joe Dustin one-timer from the left point that found twine in Victoria's net, putting the Condors up 3-2. Tim Konsorada and Kevin Truelson assisted the goal.
Mcleod struck again at the 11:16 mark of the second with his second goal of the period, tying the game at 3-3.
Victoria took its first lead of the game 2:29 into the third with Ash Goldie's second goal of the game, a power-play score, putting Victoria up 4-3.
Brett Lutes then made the score 4-4 when he ripped a slap shot past Thompson after Kudelka intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and set Lutes up for the game-tying score at 13:36 in the third. It was Lutes' fifth goal of the year, and Kudelka's second assist of the game.
The game then went to a shootout, and the Condors ended up falling in the shootout, 3-1, dropping the game 5-4.
