Condors Take Down Ontario in a Shootout Pielmeier stops all three shooters in the extra session
Bakersfield, Calif. -
For the first time this season, the Bakersfield Condors (9-6-0-0,
18pts) played in a shootout, and they did not disappoint, knocking off
the Ontario Reign (7-8-0-1, 15pts) 4-3 in front of 4,862 fans at
Rabobank Arena. G Timo Pielmeier stopped 25 shots, plus all three in
the shootout to earn the win, while RW Stephane
Goulet, RW Dan Sexton and C MacGregor Sharp converted in the shootout
to keep the Condors in first place in the Pacific Division.

The
Condors struck first in the game when D Eric Regan scored his fourth of
the season off a shot from the point with 9:38 remaining in the opening
period. Goulet and LW Mathieu Aubin each picked up assists on the play.
But Ontario scored the next two goals to make it a 2-1 game. F Michael
Pelech scored just 17 seconds later before LW Peter Lenes tallied a
goal with 3:48 to play in the period.
In the middle frame, the Condors took the lead. Aubin scored his
first of the season at 3:50 of the second period, while on the power
play, after chipping home his own rebound. Goulet and D Sasha Pokulok
earned assists on the goal. The Condors made it a 3-2 game when C Adam
Naglich scored his first of the season, while shorthanded with 6:54
left in the second period. RW Nick Kemp earned the lone assist,
springing Naglich for a breakaway.
The third period saw Ontario tie the score at three on Tony Voce's
power play goal at 6:53. After 60 minutes, the Condors out-shot the
Reign 33-27, but the score was deadlocked at three.
In the
overtime period, the Condors penalty kill went back to work,
successfully killing off two 4-on-3 power plays to help send the game
into the shootout. The Condors killed off 7 of 8 power plays in the
game.
In the skills competition, it was all Condors. Pielmeier
stopped all three shooters he faced, while Goulet, Sexton and Sharp
each put the puck by G Curtis Darling for a 4-3 Condors win.
