Condors pick up Voakes, Marchesi from Cincy
Deal brings forward and defenseman to Bakersfield
 

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced today they have acquired F Mark Voakes and D Scott Marchesi from the Cincinnati Cyclones for future considerations.

Voakes (VOHKS), 25, is in his rookie season in the professional ranks, and has 8g-7a-15pts and 20 penalty minutes and a +8 in 24 games with Cincinnati. He played four seasons with Wilfrid Laurier University voakes in Waterloo, Ontario. Twice he led his team in points, as a sophomore and a junior, and ranked second on the team his senior season. Voakes (pictured, right) racked up 46g-98a-154pts in 102 games at WLU prior to turning pro, and was a two-time First Team All-OUA (Ontario University Athletics) selection and team MVP his senior season.

Marchesi (mahr-KAY-zee), 26, is in his second full professional season, and has 3g-11a-14pts with 42 PIM in 59 games with Cincinnati and the Gwinnett Gladiators. He turned pro after completing his senior season at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, and appeared in nine games with Gwinnett that season plus all eight playoff games. In 2008-09, marchesi the South Portland, Maine, native was second among all Gladiators defensemen with 10 goals and third with 21 points. Marchesi also skated in two games in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves.

"Mark is a highly recruited young player who was a stud in college," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "He can play center or left wing as well, so I like his versatility. Marchesi is a solid player who was a good number three or four defenseman that can contribute. They are good kids and they will help us out."

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors take on the Las Vegas Wranglers in a pivotal five-game series this week. 

The Condors host the first two games of the series tonight and Wednesday. March 9 is Canned Food Collection, sponsored by My 45, La Preciosa 105.3 and Payment Systems Worldwide. The two clubs then battle Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Friday and Saturday's game commence at 7:05 p.m., while Sunday's matinee drops the puck at 2:05 p.m. These are the final meetings of the season between the teams.
