Condors pick up point in shootout loss to Steelheads, 2-1
Bakersfield and Idaho face off again tomorrow at noon; Diego and Poster Giveaway at The Nest
BAKERSFIELD,
Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors out-shot the Idaho Steelheads 45-30, but fell 2-1 in a shootout Friday night in front of 5,355 at Rabobank Arena in downtown
Bakersfield. After each team scored once in the first, neither club scored again until the shootout, during which
Idaho netted two goals for the win.
Idaho (16-11-7, 39 points) opened the game's scoring with a tally from F Bill Kinkel at 8:12 of the opening frame. However, the Condors (8-17-6, 22 points) responded just 1:23 later when F/D Steven Later deked his way to the net and snapped the puck past Idaho G Kellen Briggs to tie the game, 1-1.
In the second period, the Condors and Steelheads sent 13 and eight shots on goal, respectively, but neither team found a way to score in the frame, keeping the 1-1 tie intact after two.
Despite the Condors out-shooting
Idaho 15-5 in the third period, neither team broke the tie and the game headed to overtime. After a scoreless overtime session, the Steelheads emerged victorious in the shootout to top
Bakersfield by the final score of 2-1.
