Condors snare Steelheads, 3-1 
Sims stops 36 shots for the victory

 
BOISE, Idaho. - In a battle between first-place teams, the Bakersfield Condors (31-19-4-1, 65pts) knocked off the Idaho Steelheads (37-13-1-4, 79pts) 3-1 at Qwest Arena on Wednesday night. G Tyler Sims was spectacular in goal, stopping 36 of 37 shots for his second victory with the Condors.

 

The first period ended scoreless after a strong effort from Sims. Neither team was rewarded a power play in the first 20 minutes, but the Steelheads held a 13-4 shot advantage after 20 minutes.
 
Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead on their first power play opportunity of the game. F Andrew Ianiero converted a feed in front from F Stephane Goulet, 4:00 into the second period. F Mathieu Aubin made it 2-0 on a spin-a-round backhand shot from the slot with 9:14 remaining in the middle frame. Idaho led 26-15 in shots through two periods.
 
F Mark Derlago cut the lead to 2-1 with a power play tally with 3:40 remaining in the third period, setting up a tense finish. Sims and the Condors held off Idaho, who pulled G Rejean Beauchemin. Goulet scored into the empty-net for a 3-1 Condors lead.
 
Notes from the Nest:
G Timo Pielmeier was recalled by Anaheim prior to tonight's game... Each team went 1-for-2 on the power play. The combined four power plays was tied for the fewest this season... Shots ended 37-18 for the Steelheads... Bakersfield improved to 21-2-1 when scoring first and 20-0-1 when leading after two periods... F Stephane Goulet recorded his team-leading 14th multi-point game of the season... Three Stars: 1. Tyler Sims (BAK); 2. Ashton Rome (IDH); 3. Tyler Spurgeon (IDH).

The Condors and Idaho Steelheads clash again on Friday and Saturday in Boise.
