Condors weekly: Vegas showdown this week
 
Five-game series against their Pacific Division rivals starts Tuesday

 

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.The Bakersfield Condors saw their lead in the Pacific Division shrink to five points over the Stockton Thunder after going 1-2-0 last week in Idaho. The Condors won 3-1 on Wednesday before dropping Friday and Saturday's games of the three-game set.

The Condors own an overall record of 31-21-4-1 with 67 points in the standings. Their lead over third place Ontario and Las Vegas (who are tied), is eight points, with a five-game series against the Wranglers looming this week. Bakersfield hosts Vegas on Tuesday and Wednesday, and embark upon a three-game trip over the weekend to Sin City.

Wednesday, Mar. 3

Condors 3 vs. IDAHO 1

G Tyler Sims made 36 saves for his second win of the season, while GouletF Stephane Goulet had 1g-1a for the Condors in a 3-1 victory in Idaho to start the three-game series. The two clubs combined for only 10 minutes in penalties, while F Andrew Ianiero and F Mathieu Aubin both scored for Bakersfield as well.

Friday, Mar. 5

IDAHO 5 vs. Condors 0

The Steelheads came back on Friday with a vengeance, pelting G J.P. Levasseur with 45 shots and putting down the Condors by a final of 5-0. It was the fourth shutout in the last 10 games for Bakersfield, who were out-shot 45-16, their most lopsided shot total of the season.

Saturday, Mar. 6

IDAHO 7 vs. Condors 3

After the Steelheads scored less than two minutes into the game, F Gino Guyer tied the score up 1-1 a few minutes later, but the Steelheads rattled off five consecutive goals to cruise to the 7-3 win Saturday night. D Ken Morin and RW Nick Kemp both scored third period tallies for the Condors, while G J.P. Levasseur took the loss.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES: 

* D Ken Morin scored his first professional goal on Saturday, and added an assist for his first multi-point game, and added a fight as well on the night. He is the 10th player to record his first pro goal with the Condors this season, and the rookie has 1g-2a-3pts in six Moringames since signing an Amateur Try-Out on Feb. 24.

* There have been five shutouts in the last 10 Condors games - one by Bakersfield (7-0 over Ontario) and four by their opponents.

* G J.P. Levasseur has appeared in only five games for the Condors, but two of those games featured the highest save totals for a game for Bakersfield this season. He had 41 saves against Victoria on Feb. 26, and he turned in a 40-save effort last Wednesday.

* F Stephane Goulet had his team-leading 14th multi-point game of the season last Wednesday. Five of those games have featured three or more points. Goulet is the team leader in goals, assists, points, power play goals and shots.

* RW Erick Lizon climbed into the top five in the league in penalty minutes over the weekend, racking up 32 PIM on Friday and Saturday. His 196 penalty minutes is ranked 3rd, and he also ranks 5th in the ECHL with 18 major penalties.

* The Condors play four or more games in three of the remaining four weeks of the 2009-10 regular season.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors take on the Las Vegas Wranglers in a five-game series this week, which could be a pivotal point in the outcome of the Pacific Division standings.

The Condors host the first two games of the series on March 9 and 10. March 9 is Canned Food Collection, sponsored by My 45, La Preciosa 105.3 and Payment Systems Worldwide. Bring two non-perishable food items and get in for just $1. March 10 is High School/College Student ID Night, sponsored by 106.1 KRAB Radio. Get a lower level ticket for just $1, while supplies last, by showing your student ID at the box office.

The two clubs then battle Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Friday and Saturday's game commence at 7:05 p.m., while Sunday's matinee drops the puck at 2:05 p.m. These are the final meetings of the season between the two clubs.
