Devils Get Their Due Over Condors, 3-2

Justin Chwedoruk has 1g-1a for Bakersfield

TRENTON, NJ. - Trevor Kell scored near the midway point of the third period to lift the Trenton Devils (3-6-0-0) to a 3-2 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (3-5-0-2) at Sovereign Bank Arena Thursday night.

Trenton
took the lead on Joe Rooney's first of the game and third of the season, at 9:02 of the opening frame.  The Condors answered on the power play later in the period.  Justin Chwedoruk notched his fourth of the season at 14:46, pouncing on a loose rebound at the top of the crease.  It was the fourth straight game with a goal for Chwedoruk.  The Devils came back with a power play tally of their own, however, as Rooney found the top shelf with a wrister at 19:44 for his second of the game.

Neither team could light the lamp in the second stanza, though the Condors were not without their opportunities.  They outshot the Devils 11-6 in the period, and closed the frame with a two-man advantage, but couldn't get one past Devils netminder Dave Caruso.

Just seconds after the conclusion of the power play, and 39 seconds into the third, Bakersfield notched the equalizer, as Josh Sciba found the back of Trenton's net for his first pro goal. Chwedoruk picked up an assist on the goal, as did Joe Dustin - his second helper of the game.  The tie score was short-lived, as Trenton regained the lead at 9:45.  Kell recorded his second of the season to make it 3-2 in favor of the Devils.  Two late penalties against Bakersfield thwarted their chances to tie it up, and that was the final score.  Bakersfield held a 36-23 advantage in shots in the game.

The Condors return to action Saturday night from Elmira to take on the Jackals at 4:35 p.m. (PT).  All Condors games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, or online through B2 Networks.  The Condors return home to Bakersfield to host the Las Vegas Wranglers on Wednesday, November 14th at 10:30 a.m. for the annual Field Trip Day/Businesspersons special game.

Notes: Chwedoruk extended his team- high point streak to four games with 1g-1a tonight.  He now has 4g-2a-6pts during the streak and seven points in seven games this season.  Dustin had two assists in the game, giving him 2g-6a-8pts in nine games.  Tonight's game was the first in which Sean Venedam was held without a point.
