Idaho takes rubber match over Bakersfield, 7-3
Condors return home for two-game series against Las
Vegas, beginning Tuesday

The Idaho
Steelheads (39-13-1-4, 83pts) knocked off the Bakersfield
Condors (31-21-4-1,
67pts) 7-3 Saturday night at Qwest Arena. The line of LW Mark Derlago, C Tyler
Spurgeon and LW Evan Barlow registered five goals and seven assists. The Steelheads won two of three games against the Condors this week.
Idaho grabbed
a 1-0 when LW Adam Huxley scored on the doorstep, 1:47 into the first period.
The Condors countered on the power play. F Gino Guyer jammed home his ninth of
the season at 5:22 of the opening period. Idaho scored the next two to take a
3-1 lead. F Brendan Kushnirik directed in a puck past G J.P. Levasseur with his
skate with 5:05 remaining of the first period. Derlago had a shot from the half
boards deflect off D Eric Regan and over the goal line with 2:19 remaining in
the first periods. Shots were even at eight after 20
minutes.
Idaho padded their lead, adding two more goals in the
second period. Spurgeon tallied both goals, scoring at 6:48 and 18:10 of the
middle frame to take a 5-1 lead. Idaho out-shot Bakersfield 18-4 in the middle
frame.
In the third period, tempers boiled over and goals were
a plenty. In the opening 48 seconds of the period, RW Nick Kemp and D Steve
Oleksy dueled, RW Erick Lizon earned a fighting major and received a game
misconduct after dorpping the gloves with RW Ashton Rome, Derlago scored to make
it 6-1 and D Ken Morin countered to cut the lead to 6-2. Kemp added a goal with
2:19 remaining in the third period for a 6-3 game, before Barlow made it 7-3
with just 42 seconds remaining.
RW Erick Lizon earned 17 penalty minutes tonight,
moving him into third in the ECHL in penalty minutes. He is also fifth in the
ECHL with 18 major penalties... D Ken Morin scored his first professional goal
and also fought LW Adam Huxley. Ten players have recorded their first
professional goal with the Condors this season... Idaho out-shot Bakersfield
35-23... Bakersfield went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Idaho was 1-for-5...
