Marty Raymond to return behind the Condors bench
Bakersfield's all-time winningest coach back for 2010-11 campaign
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced today that Marty Raymond will return in 2010-11 to serve as head coach.
Raymond, 45, returns for his seventh full season as head coach of the Condors. This past season, he guided the team to their sixth consecutive Kelly Cup Playoff appearance, during three of which the
club reached the second round. The 2009-10 Condors earned their first division title in history, leading the Pacific Division from Opening Night until the end of the season, 140 consecutive days.
He was the first coach selected to represent the Condors at an All-Star Game, and reached Bakersfield milestones of 400 games coached, 200 wins and finished the season with exactly 500 points earned in his Condors career. In Condors history, 22 of the 25 victories in the postseason have been earned by Raymond, who has led the organization to 52 playoff contests in six full seasons as head coach, compared to 18 playoff games in the six years prior.

The Drummondville, Quebec, native has stood behind the Condors bench for over eight total seasons, after joining the organization during the 2001-02 season as an associate coach and working alongside Paul Kelly. He served in that capacity through March, 2004, when he took over head coaching duties following Kelly's resignation.

"We're looking to continue to build on our winning tradition, with an emphasis on postseason success," said Raymond. "We had a great team last season, and we'd like to bring a core of that team back, with more high energy players. That will help us create more playoff success at the end of the day."

Raymond began his coaching career in France, where he spent two seasons before returning to North America to guide the Tucson Gila Monsters (1997-99) and Phoenix Mustangs (1999-01). At the helm of the Mustangs in 2000, he won a Taylor Cup Championship, which included an opening round elimination of the Condors en route to the title. His career record in Bakersfield is 224-173-52 (.557 win pct.) in 449 games. Among ECHL coaches, only Jeff Pyle (Gwinnett) has a longer tenure with his club, and he ranks 15th in ECHL history in games coached (449) and 17th in wins (224). Only three active coaches in the ECHL have more career wins than the Condors bench boss.
