Condors extend Qualifying Offers
Five players ECHL rights protected by Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors today announced they have sent out Qualifying Offers to five players from their Season Ending Roster. With the Qualifying Offers, the Condors have effectively reserved the ECHL playing rights to LW Mark Derlago, D Jason Goulet, D Chris Kaufman, C Tim Konsorada and D Jay Langager for the 2008-09 campaign.

Derlago, 22, turned in a stellar rookie season with the Condors setting team rookie records with 39 goals and three hat tricks during the season. He tied a team record with a seven-game goal scoring streak, and finished the season with 31 goals in his last 35 games. Derlago was twice called up to the American Hockey League, and was signed by the Manitoba Moose to an AHL pact in April.

Goulet, 25, led the Condors last season in penalty minutes with 179, and chipped in with a goal and six points on the season. The Winnipeg native was brought over from Dayton via trade in November and proceeded to appear in 51 consecutive games with Bakersfield.

Kaufman, 25, completed his senior season at Robert Morris University, where he was a three-year captain, and joined the Condors for the final eight games of the regular season and the playoffs. He added his first professional points in the post season with two assists in six games.

Konsorada, 24, finished as the Condors leading point getter (68), and was second in goals (34). Although he has signed a contract to play in Norway this coming season, the Condors will retain his rights to play in the ECHL for the upcoming season should he decide to return.

Langager, 28, played 25 games in the second half of the season for Bakersfield, notching eight points (3g-5a) and 47 penalty minutes. He later added four points in six playoff contests. Langager has appeared in five professional seasons, including a stint with Bakersfield in 2006-07.

Each team was entitled to reserve rights to a maximum of eight (8) Qualified Players, no more than four (4) of which shall be Veterans (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2008-09 season). None of the Condors Qualified Players are Veterans by ECHL rules.

Players will have until August 1 to accept a qualifying offer. Additionally, players on open Qualifying Offers can not be traded, and players who are not signed, or extended a qualifying offer, by July 1 become unrestricted free agents.

When a Restricted Free Agent receives an offer to sign a Standard Player Contract from an Offering Member other than the Member with Rights and the Restricted Free Agent desires to accept the Offer, the Restricted Free Agent and the Offering Member must, within 24 hours, deliver a completed Offer Sheet to the Member with Rights, the League Office and the PHPA. The Member with Rights shall then have seven (7) days after the date it receives the Offer Sheet to exercise its Right to Match. The Right to Match shall expire seven (7) days from the date the Offer Sheet was received but not counting the day of receipt.
