Reading's Blight is Plight of Condors as Late Run Falls Short, 4-2

Team Hits Road for Trenton, Faces-Off against Devils Thursday at 4 p.m. PT

READING, Penn. - The Condors lost to the Reading Royals Wednesday evening, 4-2, in front of 4,035 at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PennsylvaniaJustin Chwedoruk scored for the third consecutive game and sparked a late Bakersfield run, but the Condors couldn't quite find a way to get the tying goal in net before Reading pulled away for good.

The Royals (6-4-0, 12 points) took the lead early when Chris Blight put one past Yutaka Fukufuji at the 6:18 mark of the first period.  Blight was assisted by Joe Zappala and Bracken Kearns.

Reading kept the pressure on in the second frame, scoring two goals and extending their lead to 3- 0.  Patrick Jarrett notched Reading's second goal on a power play at the 10:54 mark of the second, assisted by Blight and KearnsMatt Stefanishion then scored the Royals' third goal at 12:16 of the second, stretching the Reading lead to three goals.

The Condors (3-4-2, 8 points) began battling back in the third period, as Chwedoruk capitalized on an opportunity from the slot and got the Condors on the board 5:20 into the final stanza, making the score 3-1.  Chwedoruk's third goal of the year was set up perfectly by Evan Kotsopoulos, who registered an assist on the play.

The Condors then got the power play working and pulled within one goal of tying the game when Tim Konsorada rippled Reading's mesh with his fourth goal of the season at the 11:48 mark of the third.  Mark Derlago and Sean Venedam picked up assists on the play.

Blight then made the score 4-2, putting the game out of reach with 4:49 left in the third with his second goal of the contest, assisted by Zappala and Jonathan Quick.

Notes: With his assist tonight, Venedam has recorded a point in all six games he has played this year.  Konsorada's four goals now only trail Brett Lutes for the team lead, Lutes has five on the year.  The Condors put a season-high 45 shots on goal tonight, while only allowing 18 Reading shots on goal and just two Reading shots in the first period.
