Wranglers edge Condors, 2-1

Rubber match of three game series Saturday in Bakersfield

Las Vegas - G Michael Ouzas made 37 saves to lead the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 2-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors Friday night at Orleans Arena. The teams have split the first two matches of the weekend series, with the deciding game in Bakersfield Saturday evening.

The Condors (5-5-0-0, 10pts) and Wranglers battled back and forth in an even opening frame. Both clubs put up 13 shots on goal, but Las Vegas (5-4-0-0, 8pts) openend the scoring late in the period with a tally by F Andrew Orpik at 16:59. The same two netminders manned the pipes tonight as last night, with Timo Pielmeier going for the Condors and Michael Ouzas countering for the Wranglers.

LW Matt Watkins and the Wranglers connected on a power play tally in the opening minutes of the middle stanza to extend their lead to 2-0. Ouzas kept the Condors without a goal for nearly two full periods, but the Bakersfield power play finally put them on the board. RW Dan Sexton sniped his team-leading 6th of the season at 16:36 to cut the lead in half. Shots were 25-22 Condors after two.

Bakersfield controlled play for much of the third period, peppering Ouzas with 13 shots on goal while surrendering only three. But the Wranglers goalie was up to the task. He stopped everything thrown his way to hold onto the lead and secure the win.
