Jackals Prevail over Condors in the Final Second, 4-3

Afternoon Game Sunday in Elmira, then Team Back in The Nest for Three against Vegas Next Week

ELMIRA, NY. - Pierre-Luc Faubert scored the game winning goal with just .1 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Elmira Jackals (5-3-1, 11 points) to a 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (3-6-2, 8 points) at First Arena in Elmira, in front of 3,798 fans Saturday night.

The scoring started early when Chaz Johnson put the home team on the board just 41 seconds in.  He chipped in his second of the season to cap a 2-on-1 break.  The Condors answered with the fifth of the season from Justin Chwedoruk at 4:19.  Using the defenseman as a screen, Chwedoruk extended his goal scoring streak to five games with the tally.  The physical first period ended with a 1-1 score, and the Condors holding an 11-8 lead in shots.

Elmira used a two-goal burst early in the second frame to jump out to a 3-1 lead.  Frank Littlejohn and Kevin Ulanski (on the power play) netted tallies at 4:28 and 6:19, respectively.  But Bakersfield continued to pressure.  Just seconds after falling behind by two, Scott Balan sent a blast home for his first goal of the season at 6:46.  A flurry of penalties followed later in the frame, including a bench minor against Bakersfield for too many men on the ice.  It was on that penalty kill that Bakersfield tied it up.  Tim Konsorada wristed home his fifth of the season, and first shorthanded, at 18:06 to bring it to 3-3 after two.

The third period nearly expired without a tally, but the Jackals prevailed in the end.  With the final seconds ticking off the clock, and the game apparently headed toward overtime, Faubert entered the Condors zone and fired home his fourth of the season as the clock reached zero.  The goal officially came at 19:59, but with just one-tenth of a second remaining in regulation.
