Jonathan, 41, is the principal owner and CEO of the Bakersfield Condors hockey team. This is the 11th season for the club under his ownership. While the Condors played in the WCHL, Jonathan was a member of the league's Executive Committee, and was actively involved in the assimilation into the ECHL for 2003-04.
Along with the Condors, he is also the co-owner of the Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team in the ECHL. The Wranglers are in their fifth season, playing at the state of the art Orleans Arena. Back near his home, Jonathan is the co-owner of Flying Bats and Balls, parent company of his baseball club, the New Haven County Cutters in the Can-Am League, of which he is also Chairman of the Board. This is his 12th season of ownership in the baseball world.
Jonathan and his wife Wendy are important advocates in support of pioneering research on Split Hand/Split Foot Malformations (SHFM), a disorder that has touched the Fleisigs personally as Jonathan was born with the disorder, and they have donated money and been involved in research efforts at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore for that and other disorders. As well, they are strong proponents of children's charities including Chai Lifeline, which helps children and families suffering from serious illness, and Jonathan has served as a counselor at the Paul Newman's The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
As cancer has affected his immediate family, Jonathan was proud to be involved personally and through the team with the Links for Life Hockey-Thon, which raisedmore than $61,000 in February 2007. The Condors mirror that charitable commitment, and his belief that minor league sports provide valuable and responsible assets to the community through involvement in local charities, schools and civic organizations.
By that blueprint, Bakersfield Sports Entertainment has strived to improve the quality of life in Kern County. The team's community awards are a tremendous sense of pride for Jonathan. The Condors have received local community awards in five of the last six years, from the Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, the United Way, and the Hispanic Chamber of Kern County, including back-to-back Beautiful Bakersfield Group Humanitarian Awards in 2005 and 2006. They were also awarded the WCHL's Best Community Development Program in both 01-02 and 02-03, and have raised more than $2 million for the community during his ownership.
Jonathan is primarily occupied as a member of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and the New York Board of Trade (NYBOT), specializing in trading energy derivatives. He has been an active member since 1990, and has been featured on CBS, NBC, CNBC, CNN and a variety of nationally televised financial, business, and sports shows. He is also committed to giving students an opportunity to work with him through the many internship programs he offers.
A New York City native, Jonathan received his BA in economics from the University of Michigan in 1987 and a MBA in marketing from Fordham University in 1994. He resides in Westport, Conn. with his wife, Wendy and their precious baby girl, Brynn Olivia, born May 31, 2006.
