Condors finalize deal with Express; Add rookies Freeman and Campanale
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors and Head Coach Matt O’Dette announced today that the team has received F Scott Freeman and D Matt Campanale (CAM-puh-NAL-ee) from the Chicago Express to complete the deal that sent Bobby Robins to the Express last month.
Freeman, 23, played four seasons at the collegiate level for Clarkson University (ECAC) before finishing the 2010-11 campaign with the Victoria Salmon Kings. In six games with Victoria, the 5’10”, 180-pound forward tallied two goals and three assists for five points.
At Clarkson, Freeman was the Golden Knights’ leading rookie scorer his freshman year (16 points), received Clarkson’s Richmond Unsung Hero Award as a sophomore, became team captain his junior year, and was fifth on the team in scoring as a senior (19 points). For his career, Freeman played in 133 games with 28 goals and 60 assists for 88 points.
Campanale, 23, is entering his first full season in the pro ranks. Last season, after completing his collegiate career, Campanale signed an amateur tryout contract with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers where he played five games. He was recalled by the New York Islanders and made his NHL debut on April 6, 2011 against the Boston Bruins.
The 5’11”, 201-pound defenseman played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire (Hockey East) where he led the Wildcats with a plus/minus rating of plus-25 as a senior is 2010-11. He served as an alternate captain his senior campaign.
In other training camp news, F Clayton Cumiskey was released from the roster.
