Condors Sign NHL Veteran Kyle Calder

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors announced that the team has signed LW Kyle Calder to a Standard Player Contract (SPC). The 33-year old is expected in the lineup tonight when the Condors host the Colorado Eagles at 7 p.m.

“He’s going to bring that veteran leadership to our locker room,” said Condors Head Coach Matt O’Dette. “It’s going to take him a little bit to get the physical aspect of his game to catch up with the mental aspect, but he’s been through every situation and it will help us tremendously.”

Calder played 590 games in the NHL for five different teams (Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Anaheim). He tallied 114 goals and added 180 assists for 294 points during that time.

The 13-year pro made three separate appearances and played 18 games in the NHL playoffs, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2007 with Detroit.

The Mannville, AB native has played 10 regular season games with Bakersfield over the past two seasons, registering 13 points (6g-7a). In 2009-10, he helped the Condors to the National Conference semi-finals, registering a point per game (5g-5a) in 10 games played.

He was drafted in the 5th round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks while he was in the WHL as a member of the Regina Pats. His junior career was highlighted by a selection in 1999 to the Canadian World Junior team. His eight points (2g-6a) in seven games played helped lead Canada to a silver medal.
