Condors lock up two more for 2010-11 campaign
Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, host of the 2010-11 ECHL All-Star Classic and ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, today announced the signing of two players for the 2010-11 season. F Jean-Marc Beaudoin makes his return to Condorstown while D Sebastian Strom will make his North American debut. The announcement was made by Head Coach Marty Raymond.
Beaudoin, 25, will be back in a Condors jersey after completing his NCAA career at Quinnipiac University. He only dressed in three games with the Condors last season, but in just that short time he made his presence felt. Beaudoin scored the game-winning goal 6:45 into the third period against the Idaho Steelheads on April 2 that clinched the first ever division title in Condors history. He posted two goals and four PIM in his three Condors games.
Beaudoin dressed in 149 games during his four seasons at Quinnipiac, lighting the lamp 44 times and adding 57 assists for 101 career points. He also served as the team’s captain during his senior year, and was selected to the ECAC All-Academic Team three times.
What Marty says:
“Jean-Marc is a great character guy. He’ll be loved by the guys as soon as he comes to town. He’s not a big man, but he plays hard and he plays with tenacity.”
Strom, 22, will get his first taste of North American professional hockey. The defensive defenseman has played 24 games in the Elitserien, the highest league in Sweden and one of the top leagues in the world, in the last two years recording six PIM. In his first year out of juniors (2007-08), Strom helped lead Rogle from the Allsvenskan league into the Elitserien (teams can move up to higher leagues based on the success of the previous season). His most productive European performance appeared during a 10 game stint with Vasteras of the Allsvenskan league in which he posted eight points (4g-4a) and 10 PIM in 10 games.
What Marty says:
“Strom is a really strong, solid defenseman all-around. He has a chance to move up to the next level. He played in a defensive system, and he is a great first-pass guy and skates and sees the ice extremely well.”
The Condors now have eleven players under contract for the 2010-11 season: goaltender Peter Hirsch, defensemen Erik Burgdoerfer, Jay Cascalenda, Jason Lepine, Strom, and Yan Turcotte, forwards Beaudoin, Adam Chorneyko, Adam Naglich, Bobby Robins and Mika Suoraniemi. Training camp opens for the Condors on Friday, Oct. 1.
