Teddy Bear Toss this Saturday!!! Game preview vs. Ontario
Saturday marks the most anticipated game of the season, the 14th annual Teddy Bear Toss, sponsored by KBAK Eyewitness News, KERN Newstalk 1180 and Wells Fargo. Everyone is encouraged to bring TWO teddy bears or stuffed animals to the game, and when the Condors score their first goal, throw them onto the ice. The bears will be collected and distributed throughout the community by the United Way of Kern County. Condors fans are being challenged to set a new teddy bear record (currently 8,075 set in 2009-10) by bringing more than one to the game.

The Bakersfield Condors return home to Rabobank Arena for their third meeting of the season with the Ontario Reign. The two sides will meet a total of 10 times this season and four more times in Condorstown. Bakersfield is in search of their first victory of the season against Ontario, dropping a 5-2 decision down in the Inland Empire on Nov. 4 and a shootout loss on home ice exactly one week ago. This is game number 19 for the Condors and home game number 10.

The Condors erased two, one-goal deficits and even took a 3-2 lead early in the second period, but surrendered four unanswered goals on 50 shots and fell 6-3 last night in Stockton. F Alex Hudson, D Francis Meilleur, and D Olivier Dame-Malka each potted goals for Bakersfield in the loss.

Teddy Bear Toss has become the most anticipated tradition in Condorstown each and every year. Entering its 14th season, 73,111 bears have been tossed onto the ice for an average of 5,624 per game. Attendance-wise, 104,270 fans have come through the doors, and average of 8,021 every year. A number that could fall tonight with multiple players, the highest jersey number to score “the goal” was #48 Nate Metcalf in 2005-06. Four of the last five years and five times overall in the 13-year history,“#11” has scored the goal. Last year was the latest the goal had ever been scored, by F Scott Freeman with 7:47 left in the third period against the Reign.

D Olivier Dame-Malka scored his fourth power-play goal of the season last night which is tied for the league lead among defensemen… D Francis Meilleur’s first period goal was his first tally as a Condor… F Alex Hudson now has goals in each of the last two games… G Brian Stewart stopped an ECHL season-high 23 shots in the second period last night, just four off the Condors single period record… D Tyson Gimblett is tied for third in the ECHL with 7 major penalties… C Peter Boyd leads the ECHL with four shootout goals.
