Hot start, cool Greenham push Condors to win over rival Thunder 4-1

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. –The Bakersfield Condors (7-14-1-2, 17pts) scored three first period goals and were backstopped by 44 saves by G Scott Greenham as they knocked off  the Stockton Thunder (13-6-2-2, 30pts) Sunday evening at Rabobank Arena. The win is the second in a row for Bakersfield over Stockton and sends the Thunder to six losses in their last eight games.

Post-game interviews (O’Dette, Lyon)

The Condors came out of the gates strong, with three goals in the opening frame. D Francis Meilleur got the scoring going with a blast  from left point to make it 1-0 at 7:06. Fellow D Tyson Gimblett scored his first of the season at the 16:20 mark when his shot from the left-wing circle beat the far side of Thunder G Tyler Bunz to give the Condors a 2-0 advantage. Bakersfield grabbed a 3-0 lead when C Levi Nelson drove a hard shot from the top of the left-wing circle through Bunz at 17:15 on the power play. Stockton out-shot the Condors, 14-11.

A scoreless second period was made possible through the heroics of Greenham who denied all 12 Stockton attempts in highlight reel fashion. Meanwhile the Thunder controlled the play with the help of four power plays in the period.

Stockton cut into the lead on the power play at 3:32 of the third period when F Matt Bergland tipped in a loose rebound, pulling Stockton within two at 3-1. However, it was as close as Stockton would get as Greenham went to work making 18 third period stops and F Jacob Lagace tacked on an empty-net goal for a 4-1 Condors win.
