Condors Weekly: Season Finale this weekend

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors earned a split of a weekend homestand, highlighted by a physical 2-1 victory over San Francisco on Sunday, to send the team into the final week of the season. Bakersfield is currently 22-43-2-3 with 49 points in the standings. They close out the season with a road game in Las Vegas this Friday and a home game against San Francisco on Saturday.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, F Nicholas Tremblay tied it up early in the third period for Bakersfield. The jubilation was short-lived, however, as Vegas regained the lead for good just three minutes later. The loss eliminated the Condors from playoff  contention.

F Nicholas Tremblay and D Kyle Haines both lit the lamp for Bakersfield, while G Brian Stewart made 38 saves en route to an exiting 2-1 triumph over the Bulls Sunday. F Dyson Stevenson got into his first pro fight as well, and the two teams combined for 73 shots on goal. 

• D Kyle Haines is the first rookie defenseman in Condors history to score at least 10 goals in a season. He is the ninth d-man overall and the first since 2009-10 (Eric Regan & Sasha Pokulok).

• F Greg Burgdoerfer’s (pictured) signing on Sunday signaled the second straight season the Condors have had a pair of twin brothers on the roster.
• F Dyson Stevenson, who signed with the team Thursday at the age of 19, engaged in his first professional fight on Sunday.
• G Brian Stewart has made six straight starts, posting a 3-3-0 record with a 1.97 goals against average (GAA).
• Since Feb. 1, Stewart has a 2.16 GAA and a .943 save pct. His save pct. ranks 4th in the ECHL during that time.
• F Francis Verreault returned to the Condors lineup Sunday after missing nine games to injury. He recorded an assist in the 2-1 victory. Verreault was just a few points off the rookie scoring lead when he went down, but currently ranks tied for 6th among all first year players in the league.

• G Brian Stewart is 2nd in the ECHL with 1,365 saves and 5th with 2,339 minutes played.
• Stewart is tied for 5th in the ECHL with a .918 save pct.
• F Francis Verreault is tied for 6th in ECHL in rookie scoring with 47 points. Verreault is also 4th among rookies with 163 shots on goal.
• G Scott Greenham is tied for second in the league lead with five shootout wins and is 3rd with a .962 shootout save percentage.
• F Brett Lyon leads all rookies with 21 major penalties (also ranking 3rd in the ECHL overall) and 189 penalty minutes.
• D Deron Cousens is the only defenseman in the league with two game-winning shootout goals.
