Condors Weekly – Condors wrap up road trip and return home this weekend

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors played their first road games of the year in Utah this past weekend, going 1-1-0-0 on the trip. After a resounding 5-0 victory on Friday night, the Condors had a could-be comeback on Saturday come up short. The Condors are now 1-2-0-0 (2 points) and are 4th in the Pacific Division.

The Condors got on the board early in the contest with C Adam Naglich and RW Stephane Goulet both scoring goals in a 4-minute span in the first period. C Rylan Kaip scored his second goal in as many games and Goulet added his second goal of the night in the second period. D Antonin Manavian scored his first goal 2:28 into the third period, giving the Condors their eventual 5-0 victory. G Josh Tordjman earned his 10th career shutout, and the first shutout for the Condors since Tyler Sims on Valentine’s Day last season.

Saturday, Oct. 23

UTAH 6 vs. Condors 4

Penalties marked the start of this contest, as the first seven power plays of the game all went to the Grizzlies. Despite this, the Condors scored first for the third straight game when F Andrew Ianiero scored at the 10:46 mark of the first period. However, the Grizzlies scored on 4 of their seven power plays through two periods to gain a 4-1 lead with less than five minutes left in second period. The Condors struck for two goals in the final three minutes of the period, to bring Bakersfield back to within one going into the third. RW Carter Smith tallied 2:23 into the third period to tie the contest. The Grizzlies scored halfway through the third and then again on the empty net to spoil the comeback and gain the victory.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • RW Carter Smith, F Andrew Ianiero, RW Stephane Goulet, and D Jason Lepine have all recorded a point in all three games for the Condors.
  • G Josh Tordjman earned a shutout in his first start as a Condor. He is the fourth goalie to get a shutout in his Condors debut. Other goalies to accomplish the feat are Kevin St. Pierre, Justin Pogge, and Tyler Sims
  • F Andrew Ianiero will play in his 400th Condors game in Las Vegas on Thursday. The Condors record is held by Paul Rosebush at 416 games.
  • LW Mika Suoraniemi earned three assists and finished the weekend +3.
  • The Condors have held a 1-0 advantage in all three games this season.
  • RW Stephane Goulet recorded 8 shots on goal for the weekend, including 6 on Saturday.
  • C Rylan Kaip returned early from the trip to be with his wife during the birth of their first child. He left after the second period on Friday, and returned to Bakersfield just in time to see the birth.
  • LW J.D. Corbin left Friday’s game in the second period after being hit head-first into the boards. He was placed on the 7-day IR on Sunday.D Antonin
  • Manavian was moved to forward for the third period on Friday and continued playing forward on Saturday.
