Condors blanked by Aces, 3-0
Same two teams tango Wednesday at Rabobank Arena
Bakersfield, Calif. – G Adam Courchaine stopped 33 shots for his first professional shutout, leading the Alaska Aces (5-1-0-0, 10pts) to a 3-0 win over the Bakersfield Condors (3-3-0-0, 6pts) Saturday night at Rabobank Arena.
The Aces jumped out to an early lead in the first period when LW Ethan Cox deflected a shot from D Russ Sinkewich just past G Josh Tordjman less than 5 minutes into the first period. Alaska added to their lead when LW Scott Howes found a loose puck in the slot and capitalized on his chance. The Condors had a chance to get on the board at the end of the period, but rang a shot off the crossbar.
The Condors picked up their physical play in the second period, but Courchaine slammed the door on every chance. Bakersfield outshot the Aces by a 15-6 margin in the second period, but just couldn’t get the puck to bounce into the net. Tordjman sparkled at the end of the second period as well when he made a flurry of saves to keep the score at 2-0.
Alaska played shut-down defense in the third as the Condors pressured for chances. They outshot the Condors 15-6 in the frame, and kept the loose pucks away from their goaltender. RW Wes Goldie notched an empty net tally to secure the victory.
