Three things you need to know

CONDORSTOWN, Calif.  The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, are set for the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2015-16. Every week in the offseason, the team will give you a “What you need to know” synopsis around the world of hockey.
1. OILERS HIRE NEW GENERAL MANAGER

  • The Edmonton Oilers have a new President of Hockey Operations and General Manager as Peter Chiarelli was named to the position on Friday. Most recently, he was the GM for the Boston Bruins, helping the team to two Stanley Cup Final appearances and one Stanley Cup title in 2011.

2. CONNOR JONES STAKES OKLAHOMA CITY TO A 2-0 SERIES LEAD

  • Connor Jones, who had 26 points (10g-16a) in 27 games with the Condors this season,scored a Game 2 overtime game-winning goal on Saturday night as the Oklahoma City Barons defeated San Antonio, 4-3. The Barons trailed in the second period, 3-0, before mounting the comeback.
  • Jones has two goals in the opening two games, LW Josh Winquist has a goal and an assist, and G Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves on 31 shots to win Game 1.
  • The Barons play in San Antonio for Game 3 on Wednesday with a chance to close out the Rampage in the best-of-five series. If necessary, games 4 and 5 would be held in San Antonio on Friday and Saturday.
3. STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS – SECOND ROUND THIS WEEK
  • How’s your bracket? The second round matchups in the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs are one game away from being set. Out West, the Anaheim Ducks face the Calgary Flames while the Minnesota Wild clash with the Chicago Blackhawks. In the Eastern Conference, the Montreal Canadiens take on the winner of Game 7 between Tampa Bay and Detroit (Wednesday, 4:30 p.m., NBCSN) while the New York Rangers battle the Washington Capitals.
