Condors begin 8 game home-stand on Wednesday
Host Utah for three games this week

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors are glad to return home after suffering a three game sweep at the hands of the Stockton Thunder over the weekend. Their 1-3-0-0 record last week drops them to 4-6-0-0 on the season as they sit in 2nd place in the Pacific Division, 4 points behind Stockton.

CONDORS 5 vs. Alaska 4

After trailing 1-0 at the end of the first period, the Condors exploded Pascal Morencyfor three goals in the first 1:36 of the second, as RW Pascal Morency, C Rylan Kaip, and D Joey Ryan all lit the lamp. Alaska C Chris Langkow brought the Aces to back within one, but Morency put home his second goal of the period off a face-off win with less than two minutes left in the period to increase the Condors lead to 4-2 at the end of the second period. Langkow scored his second of the night while on the power play half-way through the third, cutting the Bakersfield lead to 4-3. Morency collected his hat-trick goal on an empty net to help the Condors withstand a late Aces rally, as the Condors held on to beat the Aces 5-4.

Friday, Nov. 5

STOCKTON 7 vs. Condors 0

A rocky start to a three game road series in Stockton saw the Thunder grab a 3-0 lead over Bakersfield in the first period. After no scoring in the second period, Stockton took over the game in the third by scoring four times on the Condors. The final five minutes of the game were highlighted with four fights, as Stockton knocked off the Condors with a 7-0 victory.

STOCKTON 4 vs. CONDORS 2

Bakersfield put forth a solid road effort in an attempt to rebound from the night before. It wasn’t until the 16:24 mark of the second period until the first goal was scored, as C Chris D’Alvise grabbed the lead for Stockton. The Condors countered in the third period. After killing off a 5-on-3 Stockton power play, RW Carter Smith netted the first Condors goal of the weekend. An energized Condors team looked poised to avenge the previous night’s loss until the Thunder scored twice in quick succession, including one shorthanded goal, to pick up a 3-1 lead. RW Stephane Goulet scored his fourth goal of the year with an extra-attacker, but the Thunder weathered the late push with an empty net goal of their own to hold on for a 4-2 win.

Sunday, Nov. 7

STOCKTON 4 vs. Condors 0

The Condors were shutout for the second time on the weekend during a penalty-filled affair. The Condors were unable to grab a lead on an early 5-on-3 power play, and just like the night before Stockton scored the game’s first goal during the second period. The Thunder broke the game open with two goals in the third period. The highlight of the night was a goalie fight as Bakersfield’s Josh Tordjman and Tyson Sexsmith squared off late in the game. Stockton added a final goal to take the 4-0 win as 19 different infractions were called in the third period.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors had their highest PIM total of the year with 56 on Friday in Stockton
  • Erick Lizon recorded 33 of his league leading 48 PIM over the past three games in Stockton.
  • Erick Lizon is now 22nd in Condors history with 252 PIM. He has jumped from 27th since the start of the season. He has passed such notables as Quinn Fair, Regan Leslie, and Dennis Shiryaev. Next on his list is Jason MacIntyre, a defensemen who had 270 PIM for the Fog in 1996-97.
  • D Evan Stoflet, D Joey Ryan, and D Jean-Francois David all missed the final game in Stockton on Sunday. Other Condors who missed the entire weekend are F J.D. Corbin (21-day IR), F Bobby Robins (21-day IR), and C Adam Naglich (7-day IR).
  • Rylan Kaip missed the first two games of the weekend due to call up with Houston (AHL). He returned half-way through the first period on Sunday.
  • G Josh Tordjman picked up 17 PIM during his fight on Sunday. The Condors record for PIM by a goaltender in a single game is 22, held by Michel Robinson.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors are home again on Wednesday to begin an eight game home-stand that also includes games this coming Friday and Saturday. The doors open at 6 p.m. with the drop of the puck at 7 p.m. for all three games this week at the Mercy and Memorial Hospitals Home Ice at Rabobank Arena. The Condors annual Project Warm Families Coat Collection will take place on Wednesday, sponsored by 98.5 The Fox, Cold Stone Creamery, and Goodwill Industries. Donate a coat at the game and receive a $1 terrace level ticket. On Friday, Nov. 12, all fans in attendance will receive a Condors Team Poster, courtesy of ABC23 and Hot Hits 93.1.
