Condors earn two wins to stay hot last week

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors compiled a 2-1-0-0 record this week, which included a 6-2 win on home ice over the Idaho Steelheads. The Condors are now 18-15-1-0 this season and are second in the Pacific Division, two points out first place, which is held by Las Vegas.

The Condors scored their first goal midway through the second, when RW Pascal Morency tied the game at 1-1 with a power play goal. The Condors fell behind 3-1 early in the third, but D Brendan Milnamow scored his first goal as a Condor 3:52, D Evan Stoflet tied the contest at 3-3 with a shorthanded goal, and F Slava Trukhno secured the game with 7:42 remaining in the contest and Bakersfield held on to win 4-3. G Peter Hirsch earned the win in his first start since Dec. 1, which was also a win in Ontario.

The Condors wasted no time getting on the board, as F Bobby Pete ZingoniRobins scored just 1:06 into the game putting Bakersfield up 1-0. C Pete Zingoni scored his first of two goals and five points less than four minutes later, and the Condors held a 2-0 lead at the first intermission and never looked back. F Andrew Ianiero also scored twice, as the Condors picked up the 6-2 victory. Robins also earned a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assist, and fight.

Idaho built up a two goal in the first period, but it was erased as RW Pascal Morency scored his 10th and 11th goals of the year in a span of 1:34 early in the second. Former Condor LW Mark Derlago regained the lead for Idaho when banked in a shot from the right circle at 10:13. The Condors battled back once again as C Pete Zingoni blasted home a power play goal, and the two sides skated into the second intermission tied 3-3. The Steelheads put home three unanswered goals in the third, including an empty-netter, as the Steelheads held on to win 6-3.

Erick Lizon returns to the Condors:Erick Lizon

Condors tough guy Erick Lizon comes back to Bakersfield after being released from his PTO (Professional Try-Out) with the Worcester Sharks of the AHL. Lizon played in seven games with Worcester, engaging in four fights and picking up 24 PIM. He was called up on Dec. 16, and missed 10 Condors games during that span. He has appeared in 23 games with Bakersfield so far this season and has accumulated 117 PIM in those games. His PIM total leads the club, and still ranks 3rd in the ECHL.

PROMOTIONAL RECAP
Bakersfield hosted two exciting promotions over the past weekend at Rabobank Arena. On Friday, Eating Champ Takeru Kobayashi showed off his skills with an impressive hot dog eating Takeru Kobayashidemonstration during the first intermission, in which he effortlessly downed five hot dogs less than a minute. It was followed up with a hot dog eating contest featuring local media celebrities. On Saturday, 10 lucky fans won brand new Apple iPads at the game.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • C Pete Zingoni scored five points in the Condors Friday night win, which is the highest single game total of any Condor so far this season.
  • F Bobby Robins picked up a Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assist, and a fight on Friday. It was his second one of the season, the other coming      in a 4-1 Condors win in Ontario on Dec. 17.
  • The Condors have surrendered two or fewer goals in seven of their last ten games
  • The Condors loss on Saturday was the first time they had lost a game on home ice since Nov. 27, a span of 42 days.
  • G Brian Stewart made his Condors debut on Saturday recording 31 saves in the 6-3 loss to Idaho.
  • G Josh Tordjman was recalled to Houston (AHL) on Saturday. He played the final 30 minutes after coming on in relief of G Matt Hackett, and stopped all 12 shots he faced.
  • The Condors are 5th in the ECHL with 688 PIM.
  • The Condors are 5th in the ECHL in average attendance, with an average of 4,942 fans per game.
  • Bakersfield has four players currently on the IR. D Joey Ryan and C Rylan Kaip are both on the 21-day IR, with Ryan expected to be activated this week. F Jean-Marc Beaudoin is currently on the 7-day IR, and G Peter Hirsch is on the 3-day IR.

ON THE DOCKET:

The Condors head out on the road to take on the Stockton Thunder on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They return home on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14.

On Friday night against Alaska they welcome World Series pitcher and Bakersfield native Colby Lewis, sponsored by My 45 and KUZZ 107.9. He will sign autographs in the Condors Photo Booth.
