Condors swap defensemen with Florida, pick up Paquet
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, announced they have acquired D Phil Paquet from the Florida Everblades in exchange for D J.F. David. The deal was announced by Head Coach Marty Raymond.
Paquet, who turns 24 on March 12, is in his second season in the pro ranks. He currently sits third on Florida in scoring among defensemen with 20 points (2g-18a) in 49 games. Paquet has already surpassed his rookie point totals from 2009-10, when he recorded 15 points (2g-13a) in 53 games with the Everblades, and also finished third on the club with a +10.
The Quebec City native played four seasons at Clarkson University, where he served as a team captain his senior season, and was a teammate for two seasons of former Condors Captain Shawn Weller. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 7th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Paquet is expected to suit up for the Condors this weekend, as they host the Ontario Reign.
What Marty says:
“Phil is a solid young defenseman who will be a good two-way player for us. He can help on the power play and he plays physical. We also weren’t sure we could get J.F. the required 10 games in the AHL, so this ensures we have a quality d-man come playoff time.”
David, 28, had 22 points (7g-15a) in 39 games with the Condors. The Blainville, Quebec, native began the season on an American Hockey League two-way contract with the Houston Aeros and as such, by ECHL rule he is required to participate in 10 AHL regular season games in order to qualify for the Condors playoff roster. To date, David has yet to play a game in the AHL this season, but has 80 career games of AHL experience.
