Condors win 6th straight

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –The Bakersfield Condors (35-25-2-1, 73pts) rallied from an early defecit and prevailed 4-3 over the Alaska Aces (39-21-2-1, 81pts) in front of 3,852 fans at Rabobank Arena Wednesday night. The Condors have now won six in a row and 11 of their last 13, and have climbed to within two points of Pacific Division-leading Las Vegas in the standings.

 

Bakersfield fell behind early in the game, surrendering a shorthanded goal to RW Wes Goldie at 4:40. F Garry Nunn banged in a loose puck from the low slot to make it 2-0 at 11:21. But despite getting just six shots on goal in the period, the Condors converted twice to tie it up. F Michael Gergen redirected a shot from F Jean-Marc Beaudoin to put the Condors on the board at 16:26. Then just over a minute later a shot from C Adam Naglich squeezed through G Adam Courchaine’s pads and over the line to make it 2-2.

The second frame was a back-and-forth period, with each team pelting the other’s net with 12 shots on goal. The Condors took their first lead of the night when Gergen potted his second of the contest, a rebound off the endboards at 7:56. The Aces jammed in a loose puck to tie it back up, however, with LW Curtis Fraser scoring at 12:07. Near the middle of the period, Courchaine was pulled in favor of G Gerald Coleman in the Aces cage.

The clock wound down in the third period when D Tyler Gotto slammed in the game winner, with just 4:55 remaining in regulation. LW Guillaume Lefebvre added his second assist of the night, finding the d-man streaking in from the point, and Coleman out of his net during the scramble. G Brian Stewart did the rest, stopping 10 shots in the third and finishing with 32 saves on the night to improve to 15-5-0 on the season.

RW Bobby Robins (2g-5a) and LW Guillaume Lefebvre (4g-5a) extended their point streaks to six games tonight. The season high is a seven-game streak by F Slava Trukhno earlier this season… Bakersfield is 18-1-0 at home when leading or tied through two periods… The Aces had gone four straight games without trailing for even a single second prior to tonight, and had won 15 of their last 18 coming in… Power plays: BAK: 1/3; AK: 0/3… Three stars: 1.
