I’m back home in Boston for a friend’s wedding this weekend. In my opinion, the DJ needs to be the MVP and sets the tone for whatever “style” wedding you’re looking to have. I can recall having a laundry list of “no play” songs. Which got me thinking, in arena – which songs should be permanently banned from being played?
I visit a lot of arenas, see a lot of games, and hear a lot of bad music so I feel I have a pretty good grasp on this topic.
And as I’ll remind you, it’s my blog, and I’ll do what I want.
Now for the blog…
If there was a ranking of worst songs that are played at games, it’s the Put Your Hands Up in the Air song. It’s from someone named Danzel. I don’t know how it became so popular, outside of telling people to put their hands in the air over and over, but it needs to go away.
Others that need to be digitally dumped somewhere to never be played at a game again — Spongebob Theme Song (sorry kids), The Final Countdown (know the trigger is ready for any timeout in the final two minutes), Livin’ On A Prayer (guaranteed for when the home team is losing in the final five minutes), and one crossover for both weddings and games The Tootsie Roll Song.
Now on to more pressing matters. Nice article from Friend of the Blog Jamie Umbach on the amount of young d-men who will push for full-time roles in Edmonton. Much like we saw in Bakersfield the past four seasons, players will dictate roles and playing time. The good news for fans in Condorstown is the cupboard is pretty well stocked on the blue line and I think each of the players mentioned bring different elements to a lineup. That creates flexibility at both levels, depending on the needs of the team at the time.
“Everybody’s excited about watching these younger guys battle it out for an NHL opportunity.”
Keith’s retirement has created a spot on the #Oilers back end that up & comers like Broberg, Niemelainen, Samorukov, Desharnais & others will look to secure. https://t.co/DINVninavV

Getting closer to the return of the Penticton Young Stars Classic. The four-day tournament gives younger players and other invites a chance to take on an elevated role in rookie camp, while playing against other organizations. The Condors coaching staff will take the lead behind the bench and many of those playing will eventually trickle to Condorstown throughout the course of the Fall. Nice to see it return.
Be on the lookout for some staff additions being announced in the coming days. And we have a Big 6 Pack to unveil. And a ton of 25th anniversary items to get put together! We better get to work.
Until next time Condorstown…
