Condors Weekly: Another perfect week as win streak reaches 11

Bakersfield, Calif. –The Condors ended a nine game home stand with three more victories as they closed the month of March undefeated at home, setting records for most wins at home and most consecutive wins on home ice. Bakersfield is now 40-25-2-1 this season, and their 83 points places them second in the Western Conference. The Condors are one point ahead of Stockton, with a game in hand, and six points ahead of Las Vegas. Alaska has clinched the Western Conference and a first round bye, with 93 points.

CONDORS 2 vs. Victoria 1

Attn: 3,729

F Jean-Marc Beaudoin opened up the scoring at 4:22 of the first, but Victoria tied the game going into the first intermission. RW Joel BrodaStephane Goulet netted the eventual game winner with 19 seconds left in the second; as the Condors went on to win 2-1. The Condors held the Salmon Kings to 0-6 on the power play, and G Brian Stewart stopped 37 shots to earn the win.

 

Friday, March 25

CONDORS 3 vs. Las Vegas 1

Attn: 6,556

The first three goals of the game were all scored with the man advantage, as Bakersfield got goals from D Tyler Gotto and C Joel Broda, and C Colin Long scored for the Wranglers. RW Stephane Goulet knocked home his second goal in as many nights, the only even strength goal of the contest, as the Condors grabbed a 3-1 win.

 

Saturday, March 26
CONDORS 2 vs. Ontario 0

Attn: 7,767

D Tyler Gotto once again opened up the scoring, putting the Condors up 1-0 less than 10 minutes into the game. C Adam Naglich increased the lead to 2-0 at 1:11 of the second period, ending the scoring for the night. Las Vegas was awarded a 5-on-3 power play late in the third, but the Condors killed it off to collect an undefeated home record for March. G Brian Stewart saved 24 shots to earn his first career shutout.

 

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors have won 11 straight games, tying the club record for consecutive victories set in 1999-00.
  • G Brian Stewart has won 10 straight starts, surpassing the mark of nine set in 2002-03 by Kevin St. Pierre.
  • The Condors have won 26 games at home this season, which is a new team record. The previous record of 25 was set last season.
  • Bakersfield has won 11 straight games on home ice, which breaks the record of 10, also set last season.
  • The Condors have not lost a Friday night home game this season, collecting an 11-0-0 record.
  • G Brian Stewart stopped all 24 shots he faced on Saturday to earn his first career shutout. He has given up exactly one goal 10 times this season, and 6 times during his 10-game win streak.
  • F Andrew Ianiero now has 248 assists in his Bakersfield career. He passed Steve Dowhy’s mark of 246 for second overall on Friday night.
  • The crowd of 7,767 at Rabobank was the third largest of the year. The biggest crowd was 8,327 for Teddy Bear Toss on November 27.
  • RW Erick Lizon is the first Condor to ever record 200 PIM in back-to-back seasons.

The Condors hit the road for the first time since March 5 on Tuesday, as they head out to Las Vegas to take on the Wranglers. The road trip continues with Ontario on Wednesday and back-to-back games in Utah on Friday and Saturday. Regardless of their opponent, the Condors return home for Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Friday, April 8.
