Salmon Kings shutout the Condors, 2-0 in Game 3

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Bakersfield Condors directed 30 shots on goal but were unable to solve G David Shantz, as the Victoria Salmon Kings collected a 2-0 victory in front of 5,016 fans at Rabobank Arena in Game 3 Friday night. Victoria leads the series 2-games-to-1 with a chance to advance Saturday night. 

 

The Salmon Kings struck first, earning a 1-0 lead when F Matt Siddall banked a shot from the right corner off of G Brian Stewart and into the net at 11:26 of the frame. Less than four minutes later, D Jeff Caister finished off a 4-on-2 rush to boost Victoria to a 2-0 lead at the end of the frame.

The Condors more than doubled the shot output of the Salmon Kings over the final two periods, owning a 22-10 advantage, but Shantz was equal to the task. He turned aside 11 in both the second and third periods, stopping a total of 30 shots to earn the shutout. Bakersfield had their share of big hits on the night, but the physical play didn’t equate to the offense they needed.

The Condors fell behind 2-games-to-1 last season to Victoria before winning two straight to take the series in five games… This was the first loss for the Condors on home ice since Feb. 20…  Tonight’s crowd of 5,016 was the largest in the ECHL this post-season… Power plays: BAK: 0/3; VIC: 0/5… Three stars: 1.
