Condors have no answers in Ontario and fall 4-1
ONTARIO,Calif.- Darcy Kuemper recorded his fourth consecutive victory as the Ontario Reign (5-2-1-0, 11pts) beat the Bakersfield Condors (4-6-1-0, 9pts), 4-1, at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Tuesday night.
Bakersfield received three power plays in the first period, including an extended five-on-three man advantage, but could not breakthrough for the game’s first goal. On the other end, Matt Keetley denied 11 Ontario shots to keep the game scoreless after the first period.
With Ontario on the power play early in the second period, Matt Tassone banged home a rebound to give the Reign a 1-0 lead at the 2.04 mark. The Reign doubled their lead, 2-0, at 18:37 of the period on a four-on-three power play with C.J. Stretch snapping a wrist shot from the left-wing circle past Keetley. Bakersfield was outshot, 14-6 in the period.
The Reign tacked on a third tally, 7:32 into the third period, as Chris Cloud’s shot on an odd-man rush beat Keetley to give Ontario a 3-0 lead. Scott Freeman denied Kuemper a shutout with a fantastic individual effort and backhand finish at the 12:00 mark to cut the lead to 3-1. Bill Bagron scored a shorthanded goal less than a minute later to put Ontario back up by three at 4-1. Hans Benson and Jesse Gimblett picked up fighting majors simultaneously later in the third period taking on Calla and Tassone respectively. The Condors could not pull any closer though and fell 4-1.
