Has pulling the goalie at the end of the 3rd EVER WORKED?

Comments: Every time I see them pull the goalie to have another “player” on the ice, the other team invariably scores an empty netter. Has pulling the goalie at the end of the 3rd EVER WORKED?

Reply: Oh, Amber… ye of short memory! Even in this season of difficulty in coming up with wins, we have had a game where pulling the goalie for an extra attacker led to victory. On November 10 against Idaho, the Condors pulled the goalie and D Alain Goulet scored the tying goal. We eventually won that game in overtime. Additionally, just a couple weeks ago the goalie was pulled against Alaska, and while it did lead to an empty netter, the team ALSO scored with the extra man.

Moreover, the Condors have only surrendered four empty net goals this entire season, out of over a dozen times they have pulled the goalie. So the majority of the time, it does not lead to an empty net goal being allowed.

Granted, it doesn’t happen too often that pulling the goalie works, but the risk is worth the effort.
