9th ANNUAL FIGHTING CANCER HOCKEY-THON BRINGS IN $18,500:
The Bakersfield Condors once again joined forces with Links for Life, raising $18,500 for the local breast cancer resource center. Started in 2005 by former Condor defenseman and assistant coach, Kevin Barrett, the Hockey-Thon has raised $324,000 to date.
The 24-hour ice hockey marathon began with a kick-off party at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 and concluded with a Condors Alumni game preceding the Condors home game on Sunday, March 24. In total, 60 players participated and collected close to $12,000 in pledges. Once again the highest pledge raiser was J. Tigger McAllister – a longtime participant of the Hockey-Thon – with just over $3,000.
Fans got to see retired Condors greats Steve Dowhy, Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears, Andrew Ianiero and Paul Willett play together in the alumni game and then bid on their specialty pink “B” jerseys.
