Condors defeat Reign in offensive showdown, 5-4

Bakersfield, Calif.  TheBakersfield Condors (8-10-1-0, 17pts) out-dueled the Ontario Reign (6-11-0-1, 13pts) for a 5-4 victory in front of 5,891 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario on Wednesday night. RW Erick Lizon had a second period fight and scored the game winner late in the third for the Condors, who opened a four-game road trip with a win.

C Adam Naglich opened the scoring with his third of the season just 4:54 into the contest. It gave the Condors a 1-0 lead for the first time in four games. The Reign tied it up with a fortuitous redirection of a centering feed that deflected off a Condors skate and past G Peter Hirsch to make it 1-1 at 12:35. Shots were 12-12 after one.

Condors RW Erick Lizon dropped the mitts with Reign RW Shawn Collymore to start the action in the middle frame. And near the midway point of the game the Condos regained the lead. Rookie F Mark Magnowski potted his third of the season, jamming in a rebound to make it 2-1. Just a few moments later RW Stephane Goulet extended the lead by banging in his ninth of the season, on the power play, past G Kellen Briggs to make it 3-1. Ontario pulled back within one late in the period when C Brett O’Malley sent a one-timer home to end the frame 3-2.

The two teams exchanged tallies early in the third. RW Carter Smith scored for the Condors, chipping in a rebound for his sixth of the season at 6:14 to make it 4-2. But C Justin Taylor answered for the Reign 1:40 later to pull back within a goal. Lizon notched his second of the season at 12:16 to make it 5-3, but Ontario again pulled within a goal with less than three minutes left. The Reign pressured late, but Hirsch kept a goalmouth scramble at bay in the waning seconds to preserve the win.
