Condors drop opener in Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Bakersfield Condors (18-37-2-3, 41pts) dropped the first of a three-game set against the Alaska Aces (41-12-2-4, 86pts) by a 5-1 margin on Thursday night at Sullivan Arena.
Aces F Alex Hudson struck for the first two goals of the game, thefirst coming on the game’s opening shot at 2:28 and the second on a rebound at 9:41, to put Alaska ahead 2-0. They made it 3-0 when D Sean Curry’s shot from the left-wing circle eluded Condors G Scott Greenham’s glove at 15:21 of the frame. Alaska tacked on one more in the frame, extending the lead to 4-0, when F Alexandre Imbeault’s shot from the right-wing circle beat Greenham at the 16:38 mark. Shots favored the Aces, 17-6.
Bakersfield came out much better in the second period and fired 15 shots, but could not cut into the lead and trailed 4-0 after two frames.
The Condors cut the deficit to 4-1 off a scramble in front of the net with the goal credited to C Peter Boyd at 6:44 of the third period. It would be as close as Bakersfield would get though as F Bobby Hughes scored on the power play six minutes later to cap the scoring at 5-1 for Alaska.
