Condors earn a point in 2-1 shootout loss in Ontario matinee

ONTARIO, Calif. – C Peter Boyd provided the dramatics late in the third period with a game-tying goal as the Bakersfield Condors (12-27-2-2, 28pts) earned a hard-fought point, falling in overtime to the Ontario Reign (29-10-1-2, 61pts) by a 2-1 margin on Monday afternoon.

Teams were held off the scoresheet in the first period as Bakersfield was unsuccessful on two power play attempts and Ontario failing to capitalize on their one opportunity. Shots were 7-4 favoring the Condors.
The second period also went scoreless as Condors G Scott Greenham stood tall making 12 second period stops. Shots favored the Reign 12-6.
Ontario broke the 0-0 deadlock as F Brodie Sheahan backhanded a loose rebound past Greenham to give the Reign a 1-0 lead at 5:05 of the third period. A resilient Condors squad though pulled Greenham with 1:30 left in the third period and found a way to tie the hockey game with the extra attacker. F Francis Verreault whistled a pass back to the right point where D Erik Burgdoerfer’s wrist shot was tipped in the high slot by C Peter Boyd past Reign G J-F Berube with just 88 seconds remaining in regulation. Ontario outshot the Condors 16-4 in the period.
In overtime, Ontario received a late power play and capitalized on the ensuing four-on-three as F Colton Yellow Horn notched his league-leading 32nd goal of the year from the slot with 44 seconds left in the extra session.
