Condors falter late in loss to Ontario
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (3-6-1-0, 7pts) tied the contest at 2-2 midway through the third period, but could not find a game-winner and fell 5-2 to the Ontario Reign (7-4-0-0, 14pts) on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
An evenly played first period left the teams scoreless after 20 minutes. Both teams went 0-2 on their respective power plays. Ontario outshot Bakersfield, 10-9.
The Reign picked up two early power-play goals in the second period from F Colten Yellow Horn at 1:04 and F Derek Couture at 8:13 to take a 2-0 lead. After being held shotless for the majority of the period, the Condors capitalized on a late power play as D Trevor Hendrikx snapped a wrist shot from the right circle with 30 seconds left in the frame to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. Ontario held the shot advantage, 17-3.
Hendrikx scored his second of the night to tie the game at 2-2, 10:32 into the third period, but Ontario would respond with the next three goals, including an empty-netter, to close out the Condors 5-2.
