Condors open up 2012 tonight in Ontario

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors wrapped up 2011 with a 4-1 victory on the road in Utah, and finish up their three-game road trip tonight in Ontario. The Condors went 1-2-0-0 last week to bring their record to 8-22-3-0 with 19 points in the standings.

After jumping out to a three-goal lead, behind goals by RW Tyler Helfrich, LW Matt Marquardt and D Justin Pender, in the first 21 minutes of play, the Ontario Reign slowly clawed their way back and escaped with a 4-3 victory. Ontario scored once in the second and three times in the third for the win.

 

Friday, Dec. 30
UTAH 6 vs. Condors 5
The Grizzlies skated away with a 6-5 victory on Friday in a wild game that saw three lead changes and five goals in both the first and second periods. Eventually, Utah scored the only goal in the third period to snap a 5-5 tie and take the win. Four Condors recorded multiple point games in the loss, and five different players scored for Bakersfield.

Saturday, Dec. 31

Condors 4 vs. UTAH 1
The Condors ended 2011 in style, scoring three times in the third period to turn a tightly fought game into an easy win. RW Scott Freeman scored twice and had nine shots on goal, while G Matt Keetley stopped 33 shots for the Condors. Three other players recorded two assists on the night. 

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
  • RW Tyler Helfrich (pictured) was named the ECHL Player of the Week for his seven point performance last week (2g-5a). Helfrich also was a +6 on the week.
  • The line of F Peter Boyd – C Robby Dee – RW Tyler Helfrich has combined for eight goals and 16 assists in their last seven games.
  • Bakersfield has five players (in points order: RW Scott Freeman, C Mathew Sisca, C Robby Dee, F Peter Boyd, RW Tyler Helfrich) in the Top 17 in rookie scoring in the ECHL, and their Top 3 scorers are all first-year players.
  • The Condors have had a lead in each of the last five games, and in seven of the last nine.
  • RW Scott Freeman has a three-game point streak, with six  points (3g-3a) during the streak.
  • LW Matt Marquardt has a four-game point streak, with 3g-2a during the streak.
  • G Matt Keetley has played in nine of the last 11 games.

Spider-Man and Condors Flip Cams
The Condors return home this weekend for two games against the Stockton Thunder. On Friday, Spider-Man will be in the house, courtesy of My 45 and La Campesina 92.5. He’ll hang out with fans and pose for pictures in the Condors Photo Booth.

On Saturday, 50 lucky fans will win a Condors customized Flip Cam, sponsored by Bright House Networks and 106.1 KRAB Radio. The cameras are adorned with images of past and present Condors players.
