Condors sign WHL scoring champ Holmberg
CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, made a big splash earlier today with the signing of RW Mitch Holmberg for the purposes of adding him to the playoff roster. The full playoff roster will be announced at a later date.
Holmberg was on an amateur try-out with the Condors’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Oklahoma City.
HOLMBERG – career stats
- 21 years old, Sherwood Park, Alberta
- Won the Western Hockey League (WHL) Bobby Clarke Trophy, given to the player with the most points, this season for Spokane with 62 goals and 56 assists for 118 points in 72 games
- His 62 goals also led the WHL.
- He is one of just three players (Emerson Etem, Layne Ulmer the others) to score 60+ goals in a single WHL season since 2000-01
- Led Spokane in scoring in 2012-13 with 39 goals and 41 assists for 80 points
- In 314 career games with the Chiefs, scored 147 goals and added 149 assists for 296 points
In other roster news, the team has re-signed F Nick MacNeil. He has returned home to finish schooling, but will be available at a later date in the playoffs if necessary.
