CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (21-37-4-3, 49pts) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on to beat the Las Vegas Wranglers (39-21-1-4, 83pts) 4-3 in front of 5,512 fans Saturday night at Rabobank Arena. G Scott Greenham picked up a 36-save victory in his pro debut between the pipes.
Bakersfield took a 2-0 lead through the first 20 minutes of play. LW Kyle Calder slipped home his 10th of the season at 4:55 to make it 1-0. Then in the final minute of the period F Peter Boyd stripped the puck away from a Wranglers d-man and waltzed in alone on starter G Mike Brodeur, beating him over the glove to make it a 2-0 lead.
Greenham shined in the second frame, making 18 saves and helping hold down the fort. He surrendered a power play goal to D Chris Francis at 5:41 and another to F Josh Lunden at 13:11, but it remained a 3-2 Condors lead through the second.
The two clubs combined for only nine shots in the third frame, but D Justin Pender unloaded for the eventual game winner on the power play with five minutes remaining in the contest. Vegas added a late goal in the final minute with the goalie pulled to account for the final score.
