The Bakersfield Condors host the Ontario Reign in the ninth of 10 matchups on the season. Bakersfield will see Ontario twice, including tonight, over the final 9 games of the regular season. The Condors are 6-1-1 against the Reign and have points in six straight games in the series (5-0-1).
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Bakersfield extended a points streak to four games (2-0-2) in a 5-4 shootout loss to Ontario on Friday. C Cooper Marody (1g-1a) and LW Tyler Benson (1g-1a) each extended point streaks to seven games. C Mitch Callahan registered his second consecutive three-point game (1g-2a).
Ontario fell in a shootout on Saturday in San Diego, 5-4. After falling behind 4-1 after one period, the Reign rallied to tie the game at 4-4 after C Brett Sutter notched his first hat trick with the Reign. RW Nikita Scherbak had two assists after scoring against the Condors on Friday night.
MAGIC NUMBER
The Condors can all but clinch a spot in the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs with a win tonight. The team’s magic number is three, meaning 82 points will secure a position. A win tonight would give the team 81 points. Tucson and Colorado, currently the two teams with the highest possible points total outside the playoff bubble (83 points) play each other twice this weekend. Meaning, if one of those games ends in regulation, regardless of winner, the Condors would clinch a playoff berth.
RAREFIED AIR
Rookie LW Tyler Benson set a new Condors AHL single season scoring record on Friday and has 57 points on the season. He is second in the AHL rookie scoring race, three points back of the leader, despite playing in seven fewer games. His 43 assists are fourth league wide and he is now t-14th in the league scoring race.
