Hughes, Marciano and Joe join team

CONDORSTOWN, Calif.– The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that D George Hughes, D Joe Marciano, and D Colin Joe have agreed to terms for the 2014-15 season. Their addition brings the Condors roster to seven.

HUGHESstats; 6’2″, 180 lbs., Westwood, Mass; 25 years old

  • Had 22 points (5g-17a) in 65 games as a rookie in 2013-14 with Bakersfield
  • Tied for the team lead among d-men with five goals
  • Played all 16 playoff games last season and had four assists
  • Began his professional career in 2012-13 with San Antonio of the American Hockey League (AHL) where he played 11 games and notched two assists
  • Led the nation (NCAA) in scoring as a senior at St. Lawrence University in 2012-13 with 37 points (5g-32a) in 38 games

“After the experience I had last year I wanted to come back this season,” Hughes said. “We had a great run and I loved playing in Bakersfield. I knew it was the spot to play this year. We will set our standards high for this season.”

MARCIANOstats; 6’2″, 210 lbs., Alta Loma, Calif.; 24 years old 

  • Led all Condors rookies in games played with 67 and had seven points (2g-5a)
  • Played all 16 playoff games with a goal and was second on the team with a +6 rating
  • Represented the United States in Australia this summer against Canada at the Douglas Webber Cup, won by the USA
  • Played four seasons at Colorado College from 2009-13

“I really liked the city of Bakersfield and the support behind the team,” Marciano said. “I felt comfortable playing there, being close to home, and having it run like an AHL team. It was one of my best seasons playing hockey and I’m looking forward to this year.”

JOEstats; 6’0″, 185 lbs., Edmonton, Alberta; 26 years old

  • Joined the Condors following his college career and played five games with two points (1g-1a)
  • Won a CIS University Cup last season with the University of Alberta
  • Led Canada West in plus/minus with a +18 in 2009-10
  • Won a Western Hockey League (WHL) title in 2004-05 with Kelowna

“I’m excited to come back after getting a feel for the team last season,” Joe said. “I enjoyed the organization and getting a sense of the level of hockey will make this year easier. I want to contribute right away and I have prepared this summer to make an impact this season.”
