Las Vegas blanks Condors 2-0 in preseason finale
Bakersfield, Calif. – Las Vegas G Michael Ouzas turned aside 20 Condors shots to shut out Bakersfield 2-0 at Rabobank Arena Saturday night in the preseason finale. Each team won in the opponent’s building, splitting the home-and-home series at one game apiece.
The two teams traded penalties early in the first period, but it took until the 16:39 mark of the first before Vegas grabbed a 1-0 lead. F Patrick Brosnihan controlled a bouncing puck behind the Condors net and found D Barry Goers streaking through the slot. Goes one-timed the past over the shoulder of Condors netminder Peter Hirsch. RW Erick Lizon delighted the fans in the first period by dropping the mitts with Wranglers F Michael Findorff.
Las Vegas increased the lead to 2-0 just past the halfway point of the second period. D Yan Turcotte attempted to make a breakout pass when C Ryan Huddy stepped in to intercept the pass. Huddy skated the puck towards the Condors net and flipped a shot past Hirsch to expand the Vegas lead. Late in the period, Erick Lizon was given a five minute major and a game misconduct when his elbow struck the head of Ouzas as he was playing the puck out of his crease. The Condors were only able to fire three shots on goal in the middle frame.
Bakersfield was able to kill off the major penalty, but were unable to convert on any of the three third period power plays, including 27 seconds of 5-on-3. The Condors blasted seven shots on goal in the third but were unable to solve Ouzas.
