Last second losses take its toll
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors went winless in three games on the week, including dropping two of those games in the final minute of regulation, and prepare for a home contest against the Colorado Eagles. The Condors own a 6-19-3-0 record, with 15 points in the standings. They will then host the rival Stockton Thunder the day after Christmas.
THIS WEEK (ALL TIMES PACIFIC):
Wednesday, Dec. 14 vs. Colorado (7 p.m.)
Monday, Dec. 26 vs. Stockton (7 p.m.)
WEEK IN REVIEW (Home team in CAPS):
The Condors and Reign swapped goals, with LW Matt Marquardt scoring for Bakersfield, and the game appeared headed into overtime, when Ontario scored a power play marker with just 4.4 seconds left in regulation to take the win. G Matt Keetley made a season-high 50 saves in the hard-luck loss for the Condors.
Friday, Dec. 16
Saturday, Dec. 17
F Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored for the Condors in the first period to tie the game up at 1-1. The Wranglers, however, reeled off three unanswered tallies to cruise to a 4-1 triumph in the weekend finale.
PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:
- The last-minute losses by the Condors this week were added to a loss in Utah earlier in the season, giving the Condors three losses this season in which the game-winning goal was scored in the final minute of regulation.
- C Robby Dee’s hat trick on Friday was the first of the season for the Condors. He is the 22nd Condor to record a hat trick, and it was the fourth hat trick against Las Vegas in Condors history.
- Friday’s game was the first regulation loss for the Condors when a player records a hat trick since Dec. 7, 2007.
- The Condors were missing the services of five players to injury last week: F Ian McKenzie (21-day IR), F Michael Gergen (7-day IR), F Chris Kushneriuk (3-day IR), D Joe Loprieno and RW Scott Freeman.
- G Matt Keetley’s 50 saves (pictured) was a season high for Bakersfield and the most saves for a Condors goalie in over five years. The team record is 63 saves, by Ryan Munce in 2006.
